Power Foundation of India sponsored a Five-Day Regional Regulatory Workshop for the Western and Southern Regions, organised by the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI), Hyderabad, from 25 to 29 May 2026. The workshop marked the commencement of PFI’s regulatory capacity-building initiative for FY 2026–27, following the successful completion of four regional workshops and the training of 88 officers during the previous financial year.

The programme was structured to strengthen regulatory understanding and address key issues affecting the power sector. Sessions covered power sector reforms, the financial sustainability of DISCOMs, distribution and renewable energy tariffs, regulatory assets, consumer rights, tariff transparency, regulatory accounting, and the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the power sector. The discussions also highlighted the importance of coordinated action in achieving India’s national goals of 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, Viksit Bharat by 2047, and Net Zero emissions by 2070.

The workshop was attended by 20 senior officials and professionals from State Electricity Regulatory Commissions, DISCOMs, State GENCOs, and State Transmission Utilities across the Western and Southern Regions. The interactive sessions facilitated knowledge sharing, peer learning, and deliberations on regulatory, financial, technological, and operational challenges in the power sector.

As part of the programme, participants undertook a technical visit to the Gas-Insulated Substation of TGTRANSCO at Gachibowli, Hyderabad. The visit provided practical exposure to the operational and technical aspects of modern substation infrastructure, including its compact and space-efficient design, enhanced safety features, and role in ensuring a reliable and efficient power supply.

The workshop concluded with a valedictory address by Dr R. K. Tyagi, Director General, Power Foundation of India. He emphasised the need for synchronised efforts among stakeholders to address critical challenges in the Indian power sector and achieve the country’s energy-transition goals in a judicious and cost-effective manner. The programme concluded with a felicitation and certificate-distribution ceremony recognising the successful completion of the workshop by the participants.
